For the record, via Dino Bloise, Frecuencia al Día, translated: #FrecuenciaAlDía - GUATEMALA: #MOURNING | WELL-KNOWN AND PROMINENT PASTOR, Dr. EDGAR MADRID, DIRECTOR AND OWNER OF RADIO VERDAD IN CHIQUIMULA, DIES. THE EVANGELICAL CHURCH MOURNS THE DEATH OF DR. EDGAR AMILCAR MADRID MORALES. On the evening of Wednesday, April 16, the renowned and prominent pastor, Dr. Édgar Amílcar Madrid, passed away. He was originally from Chiquimula and had a long career as a preacher of the word of God. He founded the Evangelical Friends of Holiness Church, which currently has seven churches throughout the country. He also founded the Quaker Theological Seminary and the radio station, Radio Verdad. He was a professor at the Chiquimula Experimental Institute, a musician, composer, writer, theologian, inventor, and possessed many other gifts that God allowed him to develop here on earth. He was recognized as a Guatemalan scientist during the Álvaro Arzú administration and received awards such as "La Muta de Oro," "Francisco Marroquín," and "La Orden del Quetzal," among others. With his extensive knowledge, he trained musicians, broadcasters, Sunday school teachers, professors, theologians, and many professionals who today represent the development of Guatemala and other Latin American countries. Without a doubt, Dr. Madrid leaves a void in those whose lives gave them the opportunity to experience all his skills and talents, without blemish, in keeping with God's command. We join in the grief of his daughter, Edna Edith Madrid, and all the members of the Friends of Holiness Church. Heaven is celebrating; a servant of God who fought throughout his life to teach the truth of the gospel here on earth has passed away. May God receive him in his holy glory. https://www.facebook.com/LatitudStereo @BaraAnes`` And Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, commented: ``They didn't just scam him with that imaginary global satellite shortwave network, but also, and very recently, with the purchase of a new transmitter to resume broadcasting on traditional shortwave on 4055 kHz. Because of this latest scam, I believe they left him without the little money he had, causing him great disappointment. Just a few months ago, he was very excited about the arrival of that nonexistent new transmitter from Germany, allowing him to return to shortwave. The poor man fell into the hands of unscrupulous people who kept deceiving him and demanding more and more money for something that would never arrive. People tried to warn him about how fictitious it all was, but he was so sure it was true that he never listened to anyone. Alan Holder also says 11785 has been missing some Sunday transmissions. Asked the Emirler staff and they said the antenna for American continent is out of use, and the replacement antenna is not working as it should. Rain prevents trux from moving around the ground for repairs, and afraid it will not improve very quickly. This time I recorded the opening via UTwente, and that helped to quote her accurately. Well, *when* they are on, 11785 and 7275 seem to be plenty strong as if with a proper antenna. Alan Holder also replies: ``Hi Glenn, My recent e-mail was featured on "Letterbox" yesterday and since I always keep recordings of such events, I am sending these on to you. The presenter read out my message in full. The lady now regularly hosting the show is Seher Cemre Turan. She appears to prefer to be called by her middle name. Only recently did I find out that in Turkish, the letter 'c' is pronounced 'j' (as in John). Therefore it's "Jemre" with the stress on the Jem. So it seems that the North America antenna is only a temporary affair. The original may have been damaged by bad weather and must have collapsed. The irregularity of the 2200 UT broadcast cannot be wholly explained by the use of the temporary antenna. Also, the 2030 broadcast on a different antenna is off air on some days, as you know. I checked some time ago and at 2200, only one transmitter appears to be in use. All five units are on air at one point in the daytime (including the one jamming Dengê Gel until 1600). I reckon they reserve late night hours local time for transmitter maintenance. Wolfgang Bueschel also pointed out that some HFCC listings for TRT include 300 kW power, which means that they have (or will) install a new transmitter at Emirler. {WRTH says they already have 5 x 500 kW} By the way, I remember the situation at Kol Yisrael's Yavne site when one of their curtain antennas was damaged by severe gale force winds back in 2002. The antenna was in place but some of the elements were broken. They had to hire a mobile crane with a reach of 100 metres and it was about a nine month wait before repairs could be done. Only then was the ground solid enough to support the crane (and this in Israel's relatively dry climate). If the thing toppled over, you can imagine the damage that would result. Belated best wishes to you on your 80th birthday, Glenn. Also confirmed Saturday April 19 at 1730 on SW Radio, Germany, 6160.001-, S9/+15 into UTwente, and also 3975.001-, S9/+5 into UTwente, not synchronized. Could not check the 1930v Sat Apr 19 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, since the local SDR is offline, and the nearest otherones in MO, IL, IA get nothing but noise in the daytime. Also confirmed Saturday April 19 at 1930 on WRN North America stream. And at 2000 on WRN Europe stream. WA0RCR, 1860 AM, Wentzville MO, at 0315 UT April 20 is still in the variable-lengthy Houston AMSAT net replay, so WOR will probably start considerably later than nominal 0315 UT Sunday. Checked at the Peoria IL SDR where it`s S9. This time there are *no* parasitic spurs about 9917.1 & 9942.9, making me wonder if switched to the other transmitter. Also no significant splatter as has happened before. But still no activity on 5085/9475 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WTWW Xmtr update? Hi George, A while since I`ve heard from you. Ricky Hein says you got the part from China, so is 5085/9475 about to come back? I`ve also been wondering if you have been changing transmitters on 9930/5920, due to some differing characteristics. Like the parasitic spurs +/- 12.9 kHz which used to flank 5085 have been showing next to 9930 --- but not tonight. 73, Glenn`` ``Glenn, Tube is in but transmitter driver is overloaded. Also with discrete parasitic spurs circa 9917.1 and 9942.9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9930, Apr 23 at 2216 and earlier chex, this WTWW is off, instead of TOMBSing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` chex of WBCQs, Fri Apr 18 at 2352 into NH SDR: 3265 off, 5130 off, 6160 algo S5/S6; 7490 -75 Hz = 7489.925 only S5/S6, VP quite unusually compared to the others; 9330 S7/S9 WLCR Portuguese. *2355, 5130- cuts on, S8/9+10 with IS & ID loop. I keep tuned to this one as 5130, 7490 and 9330 merge at 0000 Apr 19 for `AAAWWW` WTO theme; first overtalk: ``powerful electronic fist pounds into your head`` {ooooh...}, and final one word: ``happy``. Obviously new and live as it`s Easter weekend, good Friday. Obligatory piety to start. Neither // 7570 WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5890, Tue Apr 22 at 0542, this WWCR is on again contrary to sked, S9+45 with TOMBS like on 5850 WRMI. They hardly need both. Also leaping over the other WWCR 5935, for a mixing product on 5980 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9980, Apr 22 at 2210, this WWCR with TOMBS is S9+50 like 9930 WWTW; and WWCR is also putting out spurs at least 9970/9990; squealing mars 9980 itself (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7505, Apr 18 at 0608, undermodulated English, S9+35/40 as WRNO is not only active again but running late into night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7505, Apr 21 at 0351, WRNO in presumed Hindi, S9+25/40. Same surrounded 9275 April 18 at 0343, q.v. And around third frequency 17525, March 7-8. Something`s botched up at Bethel (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 750, April 17, at 0600, WSB IDing as 95.5 only, bong and CBS news: still strixe me as strange, as WSB AM & TV were originally NBC; NRC AM Log shows not only CBS but also Fox. Then I null it and listen for KMMJ, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 750, April 17 at 0541 UT, no sign of Spanish into DX398 positioned to null WSB like last night, no KMMJ after-hours. BUT at 0601 recheck, now it *is* on with full Englishish ID for KMMJ, MyBridge, 104.7, 750 and several more FM/translators than we knew about, and into praise song in Spanish. So did it just start at 0600, 1 am local? Need also to check earlier in evening post-sunset. WTFDA FM DB searching on Slogan MY BRIDGE gets 19 hits, all in Nebraska, but only two specified as relays of KMMJ 750 or KMMJ-750: K260AF 99.9 Kearney; and K282BR, 104.3 Grand Island, which are also the only two specified as Spanish lang. Formats for some are Contemporary Christian, presumably meaning music; others Religious Teaching, i.e. mainly talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2291) ** U S A. 750, Apr 18 at 0518 UT, Spanish gospel music from KMMJ, Grand Island NE, with WSB mutually nullable at right angles. Again, KMMJ is NOT authorized to broadcast at night; but WSB could care less, as it`s now an FM station tail wagging the dog of outdated AM. Is there still an FCC monitoring station in Grand Island? I vaguely recall visiting it many years ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1220 kHz, April 17 at 0616 UT, ESPN Radio - only one in NRC AM Log is KGIR, Cape Girardeau MO, U1 250/137 watts. Also likely by proximity (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1539.96 approx., Apr 23 at 0330 UT, pronounced het to 1540.0 KXEL or whatever; surely KGBC Galveston which is often, but not always, so off-frequency. At 0332 I get a partial ID in Spanish mentioning 105.3. Then I do the usual searches in the NRC AM Log, the WTFDA FM Database, radio-locator, and even a broad websearch without finding *any* correlation of those two frequencies in the USA or Mexico in Spanish or even English. Finally I search the IRCA DX Monitor archive, and there it is in the loggings of the Jan 18, 2025 issue: ``1540 KGBC TX, Galveston – 1/9 0701 [EST = 1201 UT] noted w/legal ID with KTWI 105.3 Hempstead, TX and “Real Power 105.3” slogan IDs. (EB-MO) Eric Bueneman, (NØUIH), Hazelwood MO, General Electric Superadio III, Terk Advantage loop`` Isn`t it about time the major references caught up with this? Hold it: Per the WTFDA FM Database, KTWI-LP is on 94.3 in Liberal KS! The 105.3 in TX is really KTWL: hard to mistake L for I in a spoken ID. Could station axually be announcing wrong call? NO. Then a 92.9 ESPN/WMC Memphis ID. Not necessarily both from same station as there is a lot of CCI on 790. There are *no* Canadians at all on 790. I guess some unknown USA program/net must have mentioned CJOB. I don`t find any 93.9 in connexion with it. 92.9 does not correlate with WMC 790 either, but I find that WMFS 680 & 92.9 is a ``sister station`` to WMC. Not unusual to hear otherstuff at night besides KKOW, such as French from CJBC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 900, April 17 at 0607 UT, tent. mention of Farmington and 93.3 -- but no matchups in NRC AM Log or WTFDA FM DB. Most likely in NRC AM Log: WCGO Evanston IL, or KMIC Houston TX. WCGO is Brokered/ETH/SS, U2 10/2.5 kW, nothing found about Spanish. KMIC is/was R. Aleluya, U2 5/5 kW, but now appears to be Asian, R. Dabang. Not to be confused with R. Dabanga, the SW target broadcast to Sudan! Neither provides a plain old program schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9176-9224 approx., April 23 at 0602, wideband multi-carrier, multi-tones beating, S9+15 amid at 9200. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 17420-17480 approx., Apr 20 at 0119, multi-carrier, multi-tones beating against each other peaking circa 17446 at S9+10. What is this? Much stronger than any 16m broadcaster now, including JBA 17675 NZ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
